Ending Sadness
There are many times in our daily lives we feel overwhelmed by sadness.
The passing of an animal. The ending of a relationship. The arrival of the bank statement.
It's inevitable.
And we occasionally need to remind ourselves that in order to experience happiness, we must experience that sadness.
Yet, still, that doesn't make it any easier.
That's why today I'd like to remind you of a few techniques that I use when times get rough.
Firstly, remember the words of Stephen Fry. Though admittedly a chap that experiences more than his fair share of downs, he at least recognizes the source.
He states, quite simply: "Stop feeling sorry for yourself - and you will be happy."
(Watch a video of Stephen discussing self-pity here: http://www.karlblog.com/blog/2008/03/how-to-be-happy.html)
Are YOU feeling sorry for yourself? If so... just... STOP.
The second powerful technique I often use is to simply let go of the problem - and let God handle it. Whomever, or whatever, you consider God to be.
Let go of the worrying. Let go of the wanting approval. Let go of the needing security. Let go of trying to control the situation.
Just LET GO and LET GOD.
(I first wrote about the idea of "Letting Go and Letting God" way back in October 2006. Read my original article here: http://www.karlblog.com/blog/2006/10/five-simple-words-let-go-and-let-god.html)
So, if you're finding yourself feeling sad, or depressed, or somehow down this weekend, then remember those simple steps to happiness.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself.
And Let Go and Let God.
Then smile :)
Because you're alive.

WOW.
To grasp this, as you have presented Self Pity with the video and these aspects of letting go, is so powerful!
Thank you Karl, for this amazingly well presented inspiration. Little did I realize what a real stick in the wheel of happiness self-pity can be - and has been in my life. Have this destructive tendency - Self pity on auto pilot. Not good.
Thanks again for this eye opener. WOW.
Would give you a big hug if I could : )

Nice read. While being sad and mourning may be a difficult process, it is essential for healing and all part of the process, a transition on the way there. We are given these emotions for many purposes. The forces of energy require opposition much like batteries and magnets do.

You are so right on this one and I opened it today at a time where I have been struggling with losing my friends and it's been very hard to understand how ppl can easily move on. But after reading this I am definetely letting go and letting God. Awesome work Karl!
Best regards,
