When I wake to start a new day, the first thing I do is look what time it is.
I'm not alone.
Millions of people peep through sleepy eyes to see whether it's time to get up, or are rudely awakened by their alarm clock, every single day.
But our relationship with time doesn't stop there. Our whole day is often scheduled into slots of time, from breakfast through to lunch and on to the evening meal, and all the activities that fit in between.
We make time for work, rest and play.
We say we'll find time to do all those chores that we're not too keen on doing, but need to be done ... Yes, you know exactly what I mean!
We squeeze out as much time as possible for all those activities that we can't comfortably fit into our day.
Often, we are pre-occupied with thinking about the past and future, usually at the expense of the 'here and now'.
We sometimes let time run away ... often when we're doing something that we truly enjoy.
Of course, we know that time can sometimes pass slowly ... when we are eagerly awaiting something or when we're in pain.
Occasionally, it feels like we have to wait forever for something that we desperately want.
It's pretty clear that we live in a time-obsessed society and time, for the most part, governs our lives.
So, imagine spending a day without the confines of time-keeping.
Yes, really! It CAN be done!
Discard your watch, or any other device that displays the passing of time, and take off somewhere into the countryside, hills or coast, where you can spend the day walking and connecting with nature. Take some food and drink, and simply have your 'lunch' break when you feel ready to do so.
If you're a bit of a clock-watcher and are generally ruled by time, it may feel strange, at first, not knowing what time it is at any given moment.
Just go with the flow and enjoy a timeless day.
This is something I like to do whenever I can, and it makes you more aware of being fully alive in 'the moment'.
Although time gives a sense of structure to our day-to-day lives, it's only when you experience a timeless day that you feel truly free.
Believe me! It's completely liberating!
Try it! It could be exactly what you need right now!
